Depth of Field, Selective Focusing, & Panning Shots

Most of you all know that I started taking a photography class to better my knowledge on the use of my camera. Below are some shots I took for my assignment for the week. It demonstrates the use of depth of field by adjusting your aperture and shutter speed to an equivalent exposure. There is also a photo demonstrating selective focusing, where I focused on the middle object and blurred out the foreground and the background object. The last picture is a panning picture where I follow a moving subject, keeping it in focus while the whole background becomes out of focus. The panning shot was the hardest on to do causing me to take about 60 shots to find that 3 out of the 60 was usable. Well practice makes perfect and learning from all these experience has helped me a lot.

Hello Quang! Pretty cool stuff you're learning. I just got the Canon XSI and love it. I promised Sherrie a few great links for you on some stuff regarding your camera and where I go to get my equipment. Almost everyone knows about http://www.bhphotovideo.com/, but a cool local shop is http://www.calumetphoto.com/. They have really knowledgeable people and their service is much better than any online shop. Regarding a few books to check out, I'd take a gander @ these in addition to what you're reading for your class:

A great book of your camera! (I'm reading the XSi equivalent now)

Canon EOS 40D Guide to Digital Photography
David D. Busch

This is a great set! (In fact they now sell as a set)

The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby

The Digital Photography Book: The Step-By-Step Secrets for How to Make Your Photos Look Like the Pros’!
Scott Kelby

I'm picking up another memory card too as the Sandisk Ultra 3s have a rebate. BTW if speed is a must, the ultra 3 might suit you best as they write as fast as the bus on the camera. And try to stay away from the larger cards as you'll run into issues; like you've already experienced. :-(

I'm sure you're getting pretty excited w/ your camera as I am mine. Have you seen the new 18-200 lens that Canon is bringing out? (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=149&modelid=17518)and Tamron has one coming out too! (http://www.tamron.com/lenses/prod/18270_vc.asp) Oh Boy, can you say upgrade!!!

Cheers!
