Sherrie's B-Day

Sorry for not posting these earlier. I have been very busy. The shots at Sherrie's Birthday Party came out okay. Some pictures have a slight softness to them. I used a prime 50mm lens with an f-stop 0f 1.8. One thing I realize was to not trust the LCD prieview shots because once they got uploaded to my PC, some of the shots had blurring on them. My next lens is to upgrade it to an IS (Image Stabilization) lens. I have to give props to the photographers that still use film and have a steady hand. Well, I'm still learning. I touched up the photos as much as I can to help with the blurring. Check them out below.

Scarlett Portfolio Pics

I just finish wrapping up my photography class this fall. Below are the 10 photos I chose for my portfolio. The other photos after the first 10 are post production photos I did on Photoshop.
Click on the photos for the high res counter part.

The bands name is Scarlett and they are mainly a Mexican/Spanish rock band. I got the privilege to photograph them for my first photo shoot. The photos were used for their new website launch. Thanks to Lilian (Vocals), Norman (Bassist), Israel (Drummer), and Horus (Guitar) for the opportunity.

Below is also a copy of my Artist Statement for my portfolio:

My interest in photography peaked with the birth of my second child. I have always enjoyed taking pictures and have taken thousands of photos of my family. My interest in perfecting my photography skills began to accumulate as more of my friends started to invest their time in SLR or DSLR type cameras. The difference in transitioning from a point and shoot camera to a DSLR camera was amazing. The control I had over the way I took pictures was evident; from taking close portrait shots, landscape shots, night shots, and close-up macro shots.

After several months of exploration and discovery, I found that I enjoy taking pictures of pretty much everything. The photos that I like to focus on are close-up macro shots of plants, landscape, night shots, and portraits. My close-up macro shots are achieved through my current 28-135mm lens. For landscape photography, I use my 50mm, 28-135mm, or 70-300mm lens; the lens I use will depend on the scene. For night shots, I currently use a prime 50mm lens with an f-stop of 1.8. I try to limit my use of flash photography when trying to take night shots. My night shots are done through manual shutter control and I often experiment with long exposure times from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. Portraits are currently being shot with a 50mm lens and a 28-135mm lens.

When I compose my shot, I first look at the current lighting conditions and try to indentify where shadows are formed. I like to offset subject s or points of interests in my photo in order to provide a unique composition. I like using different points of view to give my photos more depth and I like taking certain photos with a tilted or offset angle. I like using different apertures to control the depth of field in my photos. My photos are taken mainly in color but about 25% to 30% are also taken in black and white or sepia tone. It is commonly states that a photo is worth 1000 words and I try to achieve a story with every photo I take. My ultimate goal is to express different emotions through my photographs.

Alyssa monkeying around on Halloween!

Let's just say the costume fits the child. She is always curious about everything and she does not stay in one place. Cute one minute, the next minute she is grunting at you.

A trip to Disneyland in October!

Here are some photos of us at Disneyland. This is Alyssa's first visit to Disneyland. The family had a great time since it was also Sherrie's birthday weekend.

Sherrie's B-Day Happy Hour @ Cozymels

We threw Sherrie a surprised Happy Hour at Cozymels for her Birthday. Here are some pictures I took at the happy hour. The lighting was very dim and I tried to use only natural light. I forgot to use my low light lens at f1.8 and all these pictures were taken with my 18-135mm at f3.5-5.6. I got her the birthday cake from Karen Krase Extraordinary Deserts.
