Depth of Field, Selective Focusing, & Panning Shots

Most of you all know that I started taking a photography class to better my knowledge on the use of my camera. Below are some shots I took for my assignment for the week. It demonstrates the use of depth of field by adjusting your aperture and shutter speed to an equivalent exposure. There is also a photo demonstrating selective focusing, where I focused on the middle object and blurred out the foreground and the background object. The last picture is a panning picture where I follow a moving subject, keeping it in focus while the whole background becomes out of focus. The panning shot was the hardest on to do causing me to take about 60 shots to find that 3 out of the 60 was usable. Well practice makes perfect and learning from all these experience has helped me a lot.

Well Last Saturday was Arielle's 4th Birthday Party and the kids had a good time there. Below are some photos I took using selective focusing on the foreground and then the background at the party and a link to the full album is below also. Enjoy!

Warning! Buy a high quality memory card

I just had my generic memory card, Pro Max, crap out on me. I got it for free when I bought the Canon 40D and did not think about picking up another memory card because it was 4GB in size. Well I guess you get what you pay for, which in my case nothing because of the free memory card. I lost all my pictures I shot and was very pissed that it happened. Lesson learned. Remember to pay the extra money for a good quality brand memory card. I will be picking up a San Disk Ultra II Compact Flash 4GB card. Stay away from the generic Pro Max card Costco sells.

Sigma Club Moon Cake Festival this past Saturday 9-13-08

This past Saturday we attended the Sigma Club Moon Cake Festival at Pearl Restaurant in Rancho Bernardo. The kids had a lot of fun and they enjoyed the storytelling and lanterns. It was a great event and Ashley is looking forward to it again next year.

Alyssa's toes & fingers closeup

I can't believe she is already 8 months old. Here are some close up shots I took of her little tiny fingers and toes. This was taken while she was sleeping in the room under a dark dim light. I used ISO 800 and changed the AWB to tungsten because of the light source. With ISO 800 you will notice some graininess to the shot because of the low light conditions and using a high ISO setting.

Alyssa showing Blue & Gold Pride

It's been a tough 2 weeks with the Chargers losing the first two games. We are die hard Charger fans and bleed the blue and gold. Here are some shots of Alyssa in her Chargers outfit to hopefully cheer some of you up. It's a long season and I believe that we will turn it around and make it all the way. Go Chargers!!!
